So I made this for =TeaAndZebraStripes, because it's our two month anniversary. 
Made in Bryce 5.5, because if I use metaballs in Bryce 6.1, the program crashes itself.
I'm actually quite stunned at how well this turned out.
The shapes you see are composed of six metaballs, and they are made of up three different colors. Ruby Red, Light Aquamarine, and Cobalt Blue.
Took about 55 minutes to fully render, because of the render intensive materials that I used.
The so called 'ice' texture is actually water, with bubbles. Or that's what the description said anyway.
Notice how the Ruby color blends in with the blue very smoothly. I'm most impressed by that.

Although, like your comments said, the ice does look a lot like water with bubbles. Otherwise, I think it's bloody impressive. The gems look great in that detail.
